Start researching an Orlando villa holiday, and it won’t be long before you encounter road numbers such as US 192, US 27 and I-4.
For a first-time visitor from the UK, they probably mean very little.
Once you’re in Florida, however, these roads quickly become familiar. They connect many of Orlando’s popular villa communities with supermarkets, restaurants, shopping areas and, most importantly, the theme parks.
Understanding roughly where they go can also help enormously when choosing an Orlando villa near Disney World.
US 192 – One of the Main Tourist Corridors
US 192, also known as Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway, runs east to west through the Kissimmee area and is one of the roads UK villa holidaymakers are particularly likely to encounter.
Parts of US 192 are lined with restaurants, supermarkets, shops, hotels, and tourist attractions. It also connects with several important routes serving the Disney area.
If you’re staying in one of the many villa communities around Kissimmee, there’s a good chance you’ll use US 192 regularly, even if only for supermarket visits or meals out.
It’s useful to understand that US 192 is a long road, though.
Simply being “near US 192” doesn’t tell you exactly how close a villa is to Disney World. A property near one section can have a very different journey from a property several miles further along.
When comparing villas, look at the individual community rather than relying solely on the road name.
US 27 – Familiar Territory for Davenport and Clermont Visitors
US 27 runs north to south through Central Florida and is particularly relevant to visitors staying in villas in Davenport and Clermont.
A number of popular holiday communities are located directly on, or within easy reach of, this road.
US 27 also meets US 192 at Four Corners, an area that becomes very familiar to many villa holidaymakers.
Along different sections of US 27 you’ll find supermarkets, restaurants, pharmacies, petrol stations, and other everyday facilities, so staying in this area certainly doesn’t mean being isolated.
However, US 27 itself doesn’t run directly into Walt Disney World.
Depending on your villa’s location, your journey to Disney may involve US 192 or another connecting road before reaching the resort.
This is why it’s worth looking at the actual route from a villa rather than simply comparing straight-line distances.
I-4 – The Road Connecting Orlando’s Major Attractions
Interstate 4—universally shortened to I-4—is one of Central Florida’s most important roads.
For holidaymakers, it provides a major connection between the areas around Disney World, SeaWorld, and Universal Orlando.
Disney itself has several different I-4 exits serving different parts of Walt Disney World Resort.
If you’re staying southwest of Disney and travelling to Universal Orlando, there’s a good chance I-4 will feature somewhere in your suggested route.
But I-4 is also famous amongst regular Orlando visitors for another reason: traffic.
The road can become extremely busy, and journey times can vary considerably depending on the time of day, accidents, roadworks, and general congestion.
That doesn’t mean you should avoid it altogether. Often it’s the most logical route.
It does mean that a journey time calculated purely from mileage can be misleading.
Why 10 Miles Doesn’t Always Mean a Shorter Journey
When comparing Orlando villas, it’s tempting to ask one simple question:
“How many miles is it from Disney?”
Unfortunately, that doesn’t tell the whole story.
Imagine 2 villas.
One is slightly closer to Disney in terms of mileage but requires travelling along busy local roads with numerous junctions and traffic lights.
The other is a little further away but has straightforward access to a major road leading towards the parks.
Depending on traffic, the second journey could sometimes be just as quick.
The entrance you’re heading towards also matters because Walt Disney World is enormous. Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom are not all reached from exactly the same place. Disney itself directs drivers to different I-4 exits for different parts of the resort.
So when a villa is described as being a certain distance or approximate driving time from Disney, treat that as useful guidance rather than a guaranteed journey time.
Where Will We Find Shops and Restaurants?
This is another common concern for first-time villa guests.
Fortunately, the main Orlando villa areas are well established and generally have plenty of everyday facilities within a reasonable drive.
Around Kissimmee and US 192, you’ll find extensive stretches of restaurants, supermarkets, shops and tourist businesses.
US 27 also has numerous commercial areas serving the large number of residential and holiday communities around Davenport and Clermont.
The exact choice will depend on where your villa is located.

Search for the nearest supermarket, pharmacy, and a few restaurants.

Regular Orlando visitors can become very familiar with the routes between their villa and the parks.
It’s still worth using a live navigation app.
The advantage isn’t necessarily that you don’t know where Disney World is.
It’s that your navigation app may know something you don’t—such as heavy traffic ahead.
A route you used yesterday may not be the quickest route today.
Check the journey shortly before leaving the villa, particularly when travelling at busy times.
If you’re relying on your phone, downloading maps for offline use before travelling can also provide a useful backup.
Understand Toll Roads Before You Drive
Not every major road around Orlando is a toll road, but toll roads are an important part of Central Florida’s road network.
They can be particularly useful for airport journeys and travelling around some parts of the region. Disney’s own directions from Orlando International Airport, for example, include FL-417, which is a toll road.
Before leaving the airport in a hire car, understand how your tolls will be paid.
Rental companies have their own toll arrangements and charges, so don’t wait until you’ve driven through a tolling point before finding out how yours works.
Another option for eligible visitors flying into and out of Orlando International Airport is the official Visitor Toll Pass. It works with participating rental companies and allows users to pay Florida’s electronic toll rate without the additional service charges associated with some rental-car toll programmes. If using it, you need to decline the rental company’s toll programme to avoid the possibility of being billed twice.
A Quick Location Check Before Booking a Villa
If you’re comparing Orlando villas near Disney World, try this simple exercise.
Open a map and locate the villa community.
Then identify:
Disney World—particularly the Disney parks you expect to visit most often.
Universal Orlando—especially if you’re planning several Universal and Epic Universe days.
US 192—particularly relevant to many Kissimmee villa communities.
US 27—particularly relevant around Davenport and Clermont.
I-4—the major corridor connecting much of Orlando’s theme park area.
Then look at the routes between them.
Finally, search around the villa for:
A supermarket
Restaurants
A pharmacy
A petrol station
This 5-minute check can tell you considerably more than simply reading that a villa is “close to Disney.”
Location Should Match Your Holiday
There isn’t one Orlando villa area that works best for everybody.
A family planning 8 Disney days may happily choose a location west or southwest of Walt Disney World even if Universal requires a longer journey.
Another family dividing its time evenly between Disney, Universal, and SeaWorld may prefer a location that provides a better compromise.
Someone planning plenty of villa days may care more about the property, pool, and community facilities than saving a few minutes on each theme park journey.
